Why is the measure of love loss? This is something that Parker used to ask. I know that she got it from a book but I could never figure out which one. It sounded like wisdom coming from her, like one of those zen koans, something that didn't have an answer, or rather the answer was some chunk of wisdom that we all possessed without knowing it. This is the only photo that exists of her from the Chemical Spray days. She's playing bass because I'd broke my hand the night before in a bar fight. "You're singing tonight," she told me. I had no vocal chops but we needed the money and nobody knew us from shit so we went with it. Great show and I heard things in her playing that night that I'd never heard in my own. She was a natural, so self-contained and confident. It was one of our best shows. My hand wrapped in bandages, my throat raw from singing, Parker in the pocket, Alice and Jordyn fierce on the wings. That night in Lansing. Pure magic. | image @punkjail.
