I don’t know which is worse the blank, desperate pain and emotional churn of my post-addiction years or today’s digital news cycle with its daily injections of anguish and uncertainty. It’s an empty and blighted landscape, full of rage and strange fears that’s sort of the evil twin to the creative chaos that I am happiest to work within. I turn on the computer and I’m slapped by unsolicited waves of outrage, news of bad things happening in other parts of the world that I cannot influence or control, and updates on various moral crises of tabloid personalities.
